FEATURES
The Canon Print Server Appliance (PSA) is designed primarily to help IT Administrators manage their network printing. When the PSA is first connected to a network, it will automatically discover all print devices - Canon and non-Canon brand that utilize the standard printer MIB - and then automatically create print shares for those devices and publish them on an intranet page generated by the appliance. In the case of certain Canon imageRUNNER devices, the appliance will automatically detect the exact configuration of the device and enable the appropriate finishing features in the driver. The IT Manager can then direct his/her client users to a separate intranet page so that they can - with a single click - download the driver and start printing.

Right out of the box, the Canon PSA is a highly capable print server that competes very favorably against any general-purpose server. Additionally, because of the PSA's underlying technology, it can also be positioned as a platform to host additional software applications geared specifically for network printing under the Enterprise Services Platform™.

Auto Appliance Setup - Once the Canon Print Server Appliance is plugged into your network, setup is automatically done and the device is ready for use.

Auto Print Queue and Creation Sharing - With the Canon Print Server Appliance, print queues are automatically created and shared for all discovered network print devices (via SNMP), thereby allowing IT managers to focus on other important tasks.

Single-click Driver Download - Once the IT manager enables the available drivers for download from the applicant's web page, client users can easily download their preconfigured driver with one click.

Support for non-Canon Printers - The Canon Print Server Appliance comes preloaded with imageRUNNER drivers, however drivers form other print manufacturers can easily be uploaded. The PSA will automatically recognize any printer supporting the standard printer MIB during discovery.

Based on Microsoft Standards - The Canon Print Server Appliance ensures users of true Windows printing by incorporating Windows 2000 as its internal operating system. Customers who have standardized on Microsoft networking products are assured easy integration and ongoing support. Even though the PSA is Windows 2000 based, it supports clients with all Microsoft Windows operating systems (Windows 9X/ME/XP).

Convenient Device Management - IT Managers can easily access and configure the appliance settings, view network printing devices and modify settings through the admin view on the Canon Print Server Appliance's web page.

Dual Network Connection - The appliance comes equipped with two 10/100Base-TX Ethernet connections, thereby offloading print traffic from the main network and improving overall network efficiency.

Auto Update - The Canon Print Server Appliance will always be up to date with the latest system software releases through the automatic update function.

Easy Access to Additional ESP-based Applications - Since the Canon Print Server Appliance is based on Canon's Enterprise Services Platform, customers can easily take advantage of follow-up applications that Canon will be launching under the ESP umbrella.

Versatility for High Security Access - For high security sensitive areas, the PSA allows the IT Manager the option to disable Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) on the PSA. Disabling SNMP ensures that the PSA is not broadcasting any SNMP traffic on your secure network.

Clear Status Display Screen - To make it easier on the IT Manager, the PSA has an improved status display screen providing the following information.
All installed patches are listed.

  • The Microsoft OS patches are clearly separated from the Canon PSA patches.
  • A progress indicator shows the percent complete during patch update/download.
