Many organizations utilize powerful system management software to control their core IT resources residing on their network. Through the use of these tools, IT managers are able to install, configure, manage and monitor the overall health their network from a single, centralized system.
IT managers appreciate the ease of our imageRUNNER device's integration into their networks and they have come to expect the same level of control that they maintain with other devices within their network. Although Canon already offers centralized control of our imageRUNNER devices through the use of our NetSpot Console utility, we are cognizant that IT managers expect to utilize their existing device or enterprise management software for the management of our devices as well.
It is for this reason that Canon offers Plug-ins to the following leading Enterprise Device Management Systems available in the marketplace today:
- BMC PATROL®
- CA Unicenter®
- HP Web Jetadmin®
- Tivoli® NetView®
- HP OpenView®
- Microsoft Management Console

Plug-in for BMC PATROL
The Plug-in for BMC PATROL is known as the imageRUNNER Knowledge Module (KM) for PATROL. IT Administrators who are already utilizing BMC's PATROL enterprise management software system will now be able to monitor and control their Canon imageRUNNER devices from within their already familiar environment, thereby eliminating the need to use multiple software applications for overall network management.
To download a trial version of PATROL visit http://www.bmc.com/products/catalog/canon_imagerunner.html
The Canon imageRUNNER KM for BMC PATROL increases overall network efficiency by ensuring availability of networked imageRUNNER devices.
The Canon imageRUNNER KM provides a "Health at a Glance" consolidated view of connected imageRUNNER devices, so IT Administrators can quickly check the status of their printing resources.
IT Administrators can drill down and view an extensive set of key imageRUNNER related attributes and make changes if necessary. Supported attributes include Available Disk Space, Configuration Information, Customizable Alerts, Device Status, Feeder Status, Paper Status, Toner Levels.
Automated recovery or notification takes over if an imageRUNNER failure occurs, minimizing downtime.
The imageRUNNER KM for PATROL supports Canon Management Information Bases (MIBs) over SNMP to provide detailed information on key device related attributes.
From the PATROL Explorer screen, one can view and monitor the supported imageRUNNER devices on the network in PATROL Enterprise Manager. Alerts are displayed as flashing icons indicating device status.
Clicking on the device icon produces more detailed information, allowing one to view and monitor the printer features and the respective status for each feature.
The Canon KM configuration interface for Network Printer Setup Information and TCP/IP Protocol is almost identical to that of NetSpot, but all within the framework of PATROL Explorer.
